The Slender Pointer Series has the attraction of a lively radical sliding action and excellent castability. The Slender Pointer achieves the maximum possible castability by using the Lucky Craft’s unique weight transfer system. Under conditions where fish are reluctant to bite, such as under the influence of a cold front and during pre-spawning season, the Slender Pointer is a go to bait. The Slender Pointer has a slightly wider and more erratic action than the Pointer Series. Also, all three sizes of the Slender Pointer come standard with three treble hooks.
Lucky Craft's new Slender Pointer represents Lucky Crafts continued dedication to listening to the needs of our customers. Smallmouth fishermen around the country have been requesting a more slender version of our Original Pointer Minnow. With the new Slender Pointer Lucky Craft has answered their requests.
The new Slender Pointer from Lucky Craft is available in three great fish catching sizes, the Slender Pointer 97, Slender Pointer 112 and the Slender Pointer 127. Smallmouth Bass are known to slash at a jerk bait, so to increase the hooking ratio, these baits feature three razor sharp Diaiichi treble hooks. This means wherever a fish hits this bait, it will get hooked. These three new baits feature Lucky Crafts patented weight transfer system, so even in the wind they cast like a bullet. Like all of Lucky Crafts suspending jerkbaits, the new Slender Pointers will suspend perfectly horizontal in the water, and will stay there no matter how long you pause them.
The action of these new baits has also been changed to appeal more to the smallmouth fisherman. These new baits feature a more erratic side-to-side action that will drive fish wild. Both sizes of the new Slender Pointer will run 3-4 feet deep, and are available in 26 different color options to match any fishing condition. This is just another example of Lucky Crafts continuing mission to produce the most technologically advanced fishing lures on the market.
In 2005, Marty Stone finished runner-up in the CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year points race and a Slender Pointer 97MR played a critical role in his run for the title. “A lot of the BASS Tour events that year were held in the late winter or pre-spawn period,” he recalls. “Everywhere we went the water temperature was somewhere between ice and 55 degrees. Ironically, I used to be scared to death of those conditions. But when the 97 came out, it completely changed my attitude towards suspended pre-spawn fish. Lake Norman, Table Rock, Clarks Hill, Guntersville – a Slender 97 was my go to bait in practice to find fish because it’s so efficient.”
Stone has found the 97 to be the easy working jerkbait in the Lucky Craft line.
“It takes minimal effort to make a 97 work right,” he notes. “That’s important when you plan to throw a jerkbait for 9 or 10 hours a day for three days in row.”
Stone works the 97 on a 7-foot medium action rod, usually with 8-pound test line.
“Whenever the water is anywhere below 60 degrees, I have one primary retrieve for a 97: twitch, twitch, pause 4 seconds…twitch, twitch, pause 4 seconds,” Stone describes. “Anything above 60 degrees, and I’ll start speeding up the cadence and experimenting more with faster retrieves." “It takes minimal effort to make a 97 work right. That’s important when you plan to throw a jerkbait for 9 or 10 hours a day for three days in a row.” — Marty Stone
