Among the Pointer family, the Lucky Craft Pointer DD (Deep Diver) has the edge in break zones after spawning. The Pointer’s large body produces a unique action when it is strongly jerked in the 6-7ft. zone. Unlike the Staysee, which is subtler and hides its presence, this lure appeals strongly to them and throws them into a state of confusion and is the number one power bait in the Lucky Craft family.
The POINTER DD has been designed with a very low center of gravity through the use of special brass weights. The low center of balance causes the lure to wobble and vibrate whenever the retrieving motion is stopped. The POINTER will suspend 7 -8 feet deep and will emit an intriguing bass-calling vibration, while in the suspended state. A short twitch of the fishing rod will generate the "Walk the Dog" action under the water. Lucky Craft Lures revolutionized bass fishing with the introduction of the Pointer Minnow, the first true suspending jerkbait.
Up until that time, suspending jerkbaits were an inexact science. Bass anglers spent hours modifying jerkbaits by drilling, filling and fine-tuning them with various forms of moldable or adhesive lead. The finished product was precarious at best, often requiring constant tinkering or re-weighting during a day of fishing.
Lucky Craft set out to design a minnow imitation that would suspend horizontally in the water column, right out of the package, without having to account for water temperature or line size, and they hit the mark with the Pointer Series.
“The Pointer opened up a whole new frontier of fishing on southeastern impoundments,” claims Marty Stone of North Carolina. “Populations of bass we once discounted as impossible to catch – specifically suspended fish – suddenly became catchable because these lures would get down in the fish’s face and tease them until they couldn’t stand it anymore.”
“The development of the Pointer Series was a major progression in bass fishing,” Reese adds. “With that single bait, Lucky Craft redefined the hardbait industry. Pointers have given us new tools to access fish that were previously inaccessible.”
